Relaxation is the key to enjoying your life.

Relaxation reverses the effects of stress

All throughout the day we push our energy forward, not only by the forward movement of walking, running, driving,

but also of  scheduling and planning.  How about scheduling time to be fully present in the moment that is

now available to you. without some thing to do.

Many people find this a difficult task.  Especially with family and business responsibility.

In the best seller,  Dr. Steven Covey's book,  "Seven Habits of Successful People"  he identifies the seventh principle as the 'sharpening the saw ' principle.  That is taking care of yourself...of the SELF!  This is a responsibility to yourself.  Only when you at optimum can the people who depend on you to be at optimum.  So you have to take care of yourself and your stress levels.  Exercise, nutrition, positive thinking  as well as relaxation.

In  yoga, a science and discipline over 4,000 years old,  also  prescribe a period of quiet,  a time to be still, not stiff  but  receptive, pliable, permeable.  This conscious  relaxation called "deep relaxation".    I have heard if it called 'magic time'. The body can only heal during rest. Conscious relaxation holds the power of healing, rejuvenating the soft tissue, internal organs and the central and peripheral  nervous system.  And also feels good during and when you arise from the relaxation state with a clear mind, an energized body and an attitude adjustment..

When we are relaxed we are in the present moment

Relaxation is not only the ability to kick back and rest but also the ability to remain relaxed throughout stressful situation. i.e.   in traffic, paying bills, doing you taxes, getting the kids ready, ........Both  types of relaxation can be practiced and mastered.

The  'kick back and rest'  method.  This is a technique that will help anchor the experience of what true relaxation

feels like. Take the opportunity to practice conscious relaxation as often as possible.  Soon it will be able t relax

by simply suggesting it to you self.

But at first try using the following:

You will need a space that is relatively quite and away from disturbances.

a comfortably chair are area to lay down

make sure the there is not a draft to chill you.

You may use background music but it cannot have a strong or noticeable beat that is grater that your heart at rest-60/minute.  But best is no beat so your heart and mind can stretch out.

laying down comfortably.  You will need to close your eyes allowing the forehead to relax , then allowing the

eyeballs to sink into the eye sockets completely relaxing the eye as you expand you lungs gently, smoothly.

Then releasing the breath

Then bring awareness to your mouth and throat.  Allow the mouth to soften, the jaw to relax (notice if you bottom teeth and you upper teeth are in contact, if so allow a space between them relaxing the throat.  The allow the

tongue to relax at the back of the throat (very important) this will relax the neck, shoulder and the esophagus the attaches to the stomach.

Johnny on the spot method  this technique is good for reducing stress as it occurs.  while you are at work, in traffic, in  stressful meetings,  etc.
